of frustration among republicans as just a policy matter that the obama administration is not doing more to support the opposition there, not intervening a little more in terms of giving support to the rebels and he will probably answer questions about that, and generally questions about the arab spring overall, what's going on with egypt, what's going on with morsi, those problems ought to be at the forefront. >> different also because he has already been a presidential candidate. and i'm wondering, you know, in terms of contrasting it, ron, yesterday with hillary clinton, a lot of people interpreted some of the answers she gave as looking ahead to 2016. john kerry has wanted to be secretary of state. it's no big surprise that this is a role he has coveted. but for people out there who don't follow politics as close as we might, they might ask a question, why. here is a guy who has been in the senate since 1984. he's been a presidential nominee. why this, why now? >> well, there's two jobs he's always wanted. first, he wanted to be president of the united states and he lost that bi

-- that hillary clinton has done a lot of good for barack obama the past four years. the fact that she was willing to join the administration, serve so loyally. kept the party, democratic party united. that at this point she's leaving after hitting a bit of a rough spot with the benghazi con tro strersy and also with her health issues that it was a way to say thank you. the only person might not have been so thrilled to see this interview is joe biden. because they could be rivals for the democratic nomination in 2016. but i think it may have been just exactly what barack obama said. a chance to say thank you. >> and he had called her one of the finest secretaries of state. with that said here, susan, last day, this friday, for secretary clinton. what can't president obama do in his second term without her? we've said it so many times. she's the most traveled, has spent the most miles in the air. the administration also according to what steve croft was pointing out in the interview, saying they had no major foreign policy accomplishments, major ones, that is, that they could hold

ban on assault weapons. how crucial will the obama administration's event, like the one we're going to see today, be to getting something passed legislatively. this whole big pr push they have going on? >> one thing that struck me when we heard senator feinstein read that litany of places that have seen terrible shooting rampages is that one thing that is different this time is that there is at least a big debate going on about it in washington that has engaged the president. it's been a decade since that has happened in response tho to these shooting incidents and tragedies. so that's different. what isn't different is that as we heard senator schumer and others acknowledge, a very hard road to go to get actual legislation passed here. now i think more likely that we would see something like universal background checks or this gun trafficking measure that's going to be introduced by senator gillibrand and others, senator kirk in the next few days. hard to see senator feinstein's bill actually being enacted. and yet it is clearly true there is something different going on this time
